Ching Sling Installation

The most important adjustment for the sling to work is that of the middle strap and the stopper.

Here's what I do: Attach the front and rear swivels to the rifle and then adjust the position of the rear "Chicago " screw so that the sling's loop will just go under your elbow when in the shooting position.  Attach the center strap and adjust the stopper to the point where the middle strap is in tension with the main harness of the sling when the center strap is high on your arm. Tighten all screws.  Head to the range and shoot a bit to ensure comfort and proper fit. When adjusted correctly this sling will lock your rifle and hold it in place from any suitable position.

Once the sling is properly adjusted for best fit the forestrap should be given a half-twist to the right before attaching.  This will place the smooth face of the sling against the forearm. Some people opt to omit this, it is optional.

Note that a sling offers no additional support from the standing of off-hand position.  The sling is used to lock the rifle in position when in the sitting, kneeling, prone position, or other positions where there is bone to bone support.

Tighten down those screws and go shooting!

Chicago Screw Notes
(Read This!)

Please note that the Chicago screws can and will come undone if not properly torqued down. Please use a proper sized screwdriver and lock them in tight after the sling has been adjusted to you and your rifle.

Added precaution: Use a dab of rubber cement or Loctite thread locker to REALLY make sure the screws don't come apart.
(Secret Loctite Removal Tip: Heat up the screw with a match/lighter/candle for a moment, it'll melt the loctite)

Where do I mount my middle strap/swivel?

Here are some photos to explain how Uncle Mike's Swivel Studs were installed on a wood stock.

Close up of the middle stud near the front magazine/floorplate screw.

Always allow enough room for your hand to fit between the swivels.

This is a typical install, I drill a small pilot hole for the Uncle Mike's Stud, then screw it in. Always pop your action out and see if your wood or synth stock has enough meat to install the swivel stud. You can find some thin spots in some stocks. FYI: I  use a dab of epoxy on the screws in synthetics .
